"Mac-Like Dock" is another one of my 'bloated' programs that I made with
Hollywood 4.5. I hope you enjoy it!
IMPORTANT: This version is a complete remake of the older one (<3.0). So if you
are happily using an older version of Mac-Like Dock, please DO NOT delete it
(just rename it or something if you want to try this new one).
Installation:
Just copy the Mac-Like Dock drawer where ever you like.
Configuration:
Double-click the "Preferences" icon to configure the main program prefs, as
launch settings for the different programs in the dock. Programs are added
through the list at the bottom of the Prefs window.
Double-click the "HotZonePreferences" icon to configure the hot-zone settings.
If you want to use Mac-Like Dock together with Mason's Push4Dock (which I do),
then you probably want to configure your preferences to have a small image size
of around 27, Horizontal Location set to Center, Vertical Location set to
Bottom, with the Pop Direction set to Up.
If the Preferences are changed, Mac-Like Dock will need to be quit (using "Esc")
and then restarted before the changes will take effect.
Usage:
If you want to launch Mac-Like Dock by using a hot-zone, just start the hot-zone
by double-clicking the "StartHotZone" icon.
If you want Mac-Like Dock to remain open, just start the main MacLikeDock
program.
(If you do not have compositing enabled, then you probably will want to use the
hot-zone instead of the persistent dock.)
Dragging and dropping files onto Mac-Like Dock can be used either to launch the
dropped file with the program upon which it was dropped (if the SHIFT key is
held down), or it can be used to add the dropped file to the dock itself (if
SHIFT+CTRL are both held down). If you are using true transparency (with
compositing), you need to be sure that you do not drop it on a transparent area
(it won't be recognized if you do). NOTE: Drag and drop does not work when
Mac-Like Dock is in Hot-Zone mode.
Right-clicking on the Mac-Like Dock will open its drawer.
Pressing the "Esc" key while Mac-Like Dock is active will end the program.
Differences between this version and previous ones:
*This new version can be left on (does not need to be hidden) because it uses
real transparency (if compositing is enabled for the screen).
*This new version supports drag and drop of files onto the dock (see "Usage"
section).
*This new version does not support screen previews and switching (there are
other tools that do this better).
*You can choose to have the programs launched from Workbench or Shell (set in
Preferences). If Shell is chosen, then arguments can be specified.
Version 3.0 (3/7/10):
*First attempt at recreating this application.
