"BenchBoards" is a 'bloated' program that I made with Hollywood 2.5. I hope you
enjoy it!
BenchBoards is similar to Dashboard widgets on OSX---based on what I've seen in
screen grabs (I've never actually used OSX). It is designed to modular and
expandable. Up to four hot-zones can be used (any or all corners of the screen).
Additionally these zones are "hot" for all public screens, so you can use
BenchBoards on any screen. If, however, you do not want a particular screen to
use these hot-zones, just add the screen name to the "ScreenBlackList".
Contained in this archive are the following eight "Boards":
*AmigaAmpBoard---controls AmigaAmp through its ARexx port.
*ClipBoard---manages up to 10 different clipboard text or image items.
*ClockBoard---time and date display. (It is just like the "CornerClock" tool I
made---if you're familiar with that. So if you are currently using CornerClock,
delete it and use BenchBoards instead with ClockBoard.)
*ClockSkinsBoard---time display with a skinnable clock face.
*MixerBoard---controls the Mixer through its ARexx port.
*NoteBoard---a little sticky-note reminder tool.
*ScreenBoard---for previewing and switching between screens (requires SGrab).
*WeatherBoard---displays weather information through Wet's ARexx port.
Because of its modular design, you can use as many or as few of these different
"Boards" as you want. You can also distribute them between the different
hotzones as you see fit. Just list your Board choices in the Preferences file
for whatever hotzone you want to use, and make sure that you have the
executables and data drawers for your chosen Boards in the same drawer as the
Preferences file in which you have listed them. There is really nothing special
about the four different hot-zone drawers (the hot-zone is actually set in the
first line of the main Preferences file)---having specially designated drawers
is just a way to keep the different zones and their settings separate.
Configure the global settings of BenchBoards for the hot-zone(s) that you want
to use with the main "Preferences" file. The "Display Layout" option and
wrapping parameters can be changed while BenchBoards is running; but if any of
the other main BenchBoards Preferences are changed, BenchBoards will need to be
quit (with the ESC key) and restarted (using "StartBenchBoards"). However, the
prefereces for the individual boards (found in their corresponding data drawers)
can be modified, and their changes will take effect without restarting
BenchBoards.
Start BenchBoards' hot-zones by double-clicking the "StartBenchBoards" icon for
the hot-zone that you want. You can also have the hot-zones for BenchBoards
activated at the time of start-up by placing the included WBStartUp_BB_HZ icon
in your WBStartUp drawer---JUST BE SURE TO SET THE PATH CORRECTLY TO THE
LOCATION OF BENCHBOARDS ON YOUR OWN SYSTEM (using a text editor like NotePad to
edit the startup files), and remove any lines to hot-zones that you do not want
to use.
The backgrounds for the various Boards can be changed by placing a different
picture or pattern in the Board's data drawer and naming the new file
"Background" (taking the place of the default background image).
IMPORTANT NOTES:
*The pngalpha.library 2.0 (available on Aminet) is required in order to use
BenchBoards.
*The various icons used throughout BenchBoards are adaptations of Mason's great
work (mainly AISS).
*Valuable beta-testing and input from fellow amigans "acefnq" and "Chris"
(www.amigans.net). Thanks guys!
History:
