Thanks for explaining. That makes sense. Keep up the excellent work.

The QT applications ported so far with the native QT port do not need AmiCygnix.
But all my applications like Gimp, Gnumeric etc. are using GTK+. And GTK+ is only available on OS4 by using AmiCygnix. And I think this will never change.

Does it mean that AmiCygnix has become obsolete and QT will fully replace it and have the same apps or better, ported to QT?

I understand your point and it might be true what you say. However, the author of AmiCygnix already seem to have worked on 2 new drivers without the use of Picasso96, for AmiCygnix, which seems very interesting. Perhaps more AmigaOS4 friendly, because the OS uses more of new and modern components. Should be interesting.

Two new drivers without Picasso96 you say? That would be very interesting to use for AmiCygnix 1.5. Composite2D is the new Cairo Engine that is used for 2D graphic in AmigaOS4, while Warp3D Nova takes care of 3D in more advanced graphic cards, like Polaris. Cairo uses hardware accelerated 2D. You also have SDL (Simple Direct Layer), even version 2 of it. I would test the new AmiCygnix 1.5 with new drivers. I send you an email from my private email account. Thanks!

I already have two new drivers without picasso96. It needs the upcoming version 1.5 of AmiCygnix. The package is nearly done. It would be interesting for me, if it works for you. Like to test? Just send me a mail to eds@amicygnix.de.

BTW: What do you mean with Composite2D? The CompositeTagList() function from graphics.library? Tried it also here, but it has no advantage to BltBitMapRastPort().

> Picasso96 is however, a thing of the past. It's useful for the use
> of UAE, but nothing more

Not only UAE, also many others with older cards (Sam440, older AmigaOne, MicroA1 etc) ...
And aniway, there is no need to remove working things even if that thing could be considered as "obsolete" .. if something better will be out, then author can simply write new drivers for support it
I don't see any problem ..

Well, yes mine is somewhat of a newer one, despite A-EONs' focus on the Polaris based Radeon GFX these days. The only Picasso96 driver that works, is the Picasso96WB running the whole AmiCygnix environment in window mode. I suppose this is probably the best way to run AmiCygnix, and it also not so memory hungry. I'm not trying to ask for a degrade of how to run AmiCygnix, but to try to focus on using the newer components of AmigaOS4. It's not my fault that there is no ongoing development of Picasso96 anymore. The world has moved on, and so is the same for the Amiga. Composite2D and Warp3D Nova, as well as SDL, are considered newer standard to use. Picasso96 is however, a thing of the past. It's useful for the use of UAE, but nothing more. Still, I look forward to version 1.5 of AmiCygnix, and I'm sure it will just continue to improve anyway. Thank you for your kind answer and help.

No matter if Picasso still developed or not, until availible on OS4, it is the best way to use AmiCygnix in a good and fast way.
If there is no use for you, stop asking of degrading feature and just use another video driver that will work better on your video card

And using the new Picasso96CloneWBdb to run own screen, just locked the system under AmiCygnix. Also, I see that all other new applications made for AmigaOS4, are using either Composite2D or Warp3D Nova. No longer Picasso96, other than for UAE. That's how it is.

I run a SAM460ex with AmigaOS 4.1 FE Upd 1 and Workbench Enhancer 1.5. The Picasso96WBDB mode locks up the whole AmiCygnix 1.5 (latest version) and so does the standalone apps for it, too. I had to choose normal Picasso96WB mode for it to work. Another problem is that Picasso96 is no longer used and supported in AmigaOS4. It's better to use Composite2D for such stuffs like AmiCygnix. Please dump Picasso96 and focus on Composite2D in AmigaOS4, thank you.
