StarDict is a Cross-Platform and international dictionary written in Gtk2.
It has powerful features such as "Glob-style pattern matching",
"Scan selection word", "Fuzzy query" etc. Stardict Version 3.0 has developed a
lot of new functions, such as Full-text translation, Net Dict.

How to install new dictionaries
-------------------------------

  You can get other dictionaries here:

  To install them, simply unpack the archive and copy it to

   Cygnix:CygnixPPC/share/stardict/dic

  After a relaunch of StarDict, the dictionary is recognized automatically.

Hints
-----

  * When an internet page should be displayed, StarDict looks for the environ-
    ment variable "Cygnix/STARDICT_BROWSER" or if this is not available for
    "Cygnix/BROWSER". The program path (in unix format) in one of these vars is
    used to launch the desired browser.

    Example: "/Cygnix/CygnixPPC/bin/nsgtk"

             launches the browser "NetSurf", which is included in the AmiCygnix
             tools package.

  * With the spell plugin StarDict also scans installed spell dictionaries in
    aspell, ispell or myspell format. If StarDict can't find an entry that fits
    to the entered word in one of the installed StarDict dictionaries, it shows
    alternatives using the spell dictionaries.
    Dictionaries in aspell format created for AbiWord are available on
    http://www.os4depot.net. You can use these dicts also for StarDict.


Problems
--------

  * The translation of whole text blocks using Google and AltaVista is not
    working at the moment. This is not a bug in my port of StarDict, it seems
    to be a problem of the antiqued routines for extracting the results out of
    the according pages.
    Please use the Yahoo translator!

  * If StarDict is not stopped before you shutdown AmiCygnix, the StarDict task
    will crash with a grim. Please terminate StarDict by using the red button
    in the main window first. Afterwards you can shutdown AmiCygnix without
    problems.
    The bug is caused by the threads.library. I couldn't find the reason yet.


Installation
------------

  The X11 environment AmiCygnix version 1.0 (or higher) must be installed
  before! AmiCygnix is available on OS4-depot (http://os4depot.net).

  To install the package, just click on the install icon. The data will be
  installed into the AmiCygnix package. Afterwards you can find the program in
  "Cygnix:Software/StarDict-3.0.0".
