This is a port of the Linux scanner software "Sane" to AmiCygnix. In this
package the Sane backends version 1.0.20 and the Sane frontends version 1.0.14
are included.

At the moment only scanners with USB connector and network interface are
supported. But this should be the majority of the available scanners.

Please notice:

Because of software problems (OS4 USB stack) and hardware problems (articia
bug), the data transfer can freeze sometimes. Also it was reported, that the
whole system can freeze, when you plug in a scanners USB connector. Please
keep this in mind, if you consider to buy a new scanner!

Frontends
---------

  These frontends are included:

  - xscanimage

    A program with GUI for scanning pictures and documents.

  - xcam

    A special program with GUI for cameras.

  - scanimage

    A commandline program for scanning pictures and documents.

  - scanadf

    A commandline program for scanners with an automatic document feeder.


  More informations can be found in the man files. To read these man files,
  launch the program "xman" and select the section "User Commands".


Tested scanners
---------------

  * Epson Perfection 3200 Photo (GT-9800): Working.

  * HP Scanjet 2400: Unfortunately the scanner was broken, but it should work.

  * Xerox Phaser 6180MFP: Is recognized by Sane, but not supported.

  * CanoScan 4400f: Is recognized by Sane, but not supported.

  * HP Officejet 7410 All-in-one: System crashes, when you plug in the USB
                                  connector.

  * Mustek ScanExpress 1200 UB Plus: Is not recognized by OS4.


The sane daemon "saned"
-----------------------

  Included in the package is a server, which makes it possible to reach the
  scanner connected to the Amiga through the network. The remote system could be
  a Linux system with installed sane software.
  Unfortunately the server works only in debug mode. As a workaround there is a
  startscript called "Start_saned.bat" located in the drawer "Cygnix:Software/
  sane-frontends-1.0.14". With this script you can use the server nearly in a
  normal way.

  Before you can use it, you must define the service "sane-port" in the OS4
  internet settings this way:

   6566 tcp sane-port


Installation
------------

  The X11 environment AmiCygnix version 1.0 (or higher) must be installed
  before! AmiCygnix is available on OS4-depot (http://os4depot.net).

  To install the package, just click on the "Install"-icon. The data will be
  installed into the AmiCygnix package. Afterwards you can find the programs in
  "Cygnix:Software".
