Description
This is my first demo, and I never expected
it to be less than 64KB. :-/
Made in about 10 days by someone who...
- has never made a demo before
- had very little experience with SDL and
opengl
- is definitely not a graphic artist
- had NO experience with creating computer
generated music
- is definitely not a musician
- just loves to play with code and to learn
new things :)
Requirements
A computer with a graphics card, d'uh!
Probably works (but not tested) on a 300Mhz
PII with an old graphics card. 1.0Ghz+ with
modern graphics card recommended.
Made on linux, but runs on every PC with a C
compiler and SDL libraries. Windows port and
sources included. Ports to other systems and
other downloads can be found on
http://dev.yorhel.nl/BlueCubes/
Command-line options
There are 3 options to set the screen
resolution:
-r 1 Lowest resolution (800x600) -r 2 Higher resolution (1024x786) -r
3 Highest resolution (1280x960) By default, the demo will try to use the
highest resolution possible.
The demo will be fullscreen by default, use
-w to view the demo in a window.

More info for the interested:
"Blue Cubes" is my first demo, and it even fits in 64KB. (It's actually not that
great, but it's still my first demo so I'm a bit surprised of my own
demoskills). I made the demo in about 10 days with very little SDL/opengl
experience and about no experience with creating computer generated music, nor
about creating music in general. I am not proud the demo itself, but I am proud
of the fact that I actually created a demo in 10 days without experience, and
even made it in less than 64k!
Because I'm a linux user and opensource-freak, I figured it would be great to
also release the code, so everyone can enjoy all the ugly hacks and it could be
a good example of how NOT to create a demo.
Oh, and have I already said I never expected that I could create a demo in 64K?
Well, I really never expected I could! :-)
I got motivated to create a demo at DemoZone 2006, I even planned to release a
simple demo I made the day before the demo competition, but that one had no
sound and was even worse than this one. Since I was still in a demo-mood, I
continued the demo and went to Evoke - just two weeks after DemoZone - and
released this little demo.
